Keeping records up to date

One of the things i am finding difficult about working on my debts is knowing where i am with them.  Everytime i think about how i am getting on i have to get out the various bits of paper, receipts and bank statements to do some calculations.

Yesterday i had the brilliant idea of starting a spreadsheet to keep track of my earnings from online sources and today i am thinking one for my debts would be a good idea as well.

I do have a bit of a tendency to start these things and not keep on top of them but i think it is worth a try - consider it almost like a business where everything needs to be recorded accurately.  If i can just get into the habit of updating these each time i make a payment (and an earning for the other one) then it would let me know exactly where i am with things :)

So thats the plan for today now - spreadsheet city here i come LOL!

Mortgage arrears lower than i thought :)

Just been on the phone to the lovely people about my mortgage payments to see if i could get a monthly statement or anything to help keep me on track with it.  They were so nice about it all and explained where i am with it and how to get back on top of it again :)

Ok i actually owe £381.06 as of today, so thats a good bit lower than i had thought - great news :) and when my HB payment comes off in the middle of the month (about the 12th its due) i will owe £195.02.  For this month then i can use this figure to work on and any more payments i make will be reducing this even more!

Once i get the arrears sorted out I will need to try and get into a credit situation so i am paying my installments before my mortgage payment is due - i didn't know that before talking to them today - though it does make sense!

So thats good, i now have a clear idea of what i need to do to get my account back into order with them, just need to keep working on it now!

Mortgage & Avon Updates

Well i managed to pay another £50 off my Avon account today - I am sooooooo pleased about this and the reason i was able to pay it this week is because i won £40 on a free game of online bingo :)

So Avon total is now £850 - its lovely to see if coming down!!

As for the Mortgage - my payment of £338.50 became due today so that needs adding on :( so that makes it now £567.10 hmmmmmm thats not so good.......BUT i have to remember that it started off as £714 odds when i did the calculation on 13th Jan.  I also have a HB payment due soon as well so that will bring it back down again - i will have a better idea of where i am when that gets paid cos i know my arrears are definitely going down :)

Finish on a positive - I have now paid £627.14 off my debts since the beginning of the year - i KNOW this year is going to be a good one for getting this mess sorted out - I am really determined it will be :)

An extra payment this week!

I managed to make some more payments today - i am really trying to get into a regular routine now and it seems to be working so far :)

Today I paid £100 off my mortgage, £20 off my rates, & FT overdraft £3.

Calculations then are:

Mortgage:  my arrears were  £328.60 at the last count so now at £228.60 :)

Rates - I was sitting at  £242.55 on this one - £20 off it today makes it now £222.55.

I also decided to start and make a small payment off my FT overdraft each week if i can so i paid £3 off it today - i got a statement in for this account this morning so my current balance is £1639.90.  I figure if i try to make a small weekly payment off this account it will really make a difference!

Avon bill - i haven't paid anything off this yet this week but plan to later on - i just need to check my income for this month and see where i stand with that.

I got a letter in about a review of my DMP being due so i will have to get myself organised for that.  Thats going to take a bit of sorting out - i need to check all the balances and my budget and income - scary!! but has to be done!

Total payments made so far this year then is £577.14 :)  can't believe its over £500 already and its just 1st Feb!

I have been trying to get a few payments sorted out all week this week and finally managed to get some done today.

I paid £100 off my mortgage, £20 off my rates, TV licence £3, and £50 off Avon bill.

Calculations then are:

Mortgage:  my arrears were £428.60 at the last count so now at £328.60.

TV Licence - i was due to pay £3 on Monday and i did make this today so i am now back up to date with this one :)

Rates - I was sitting at £262.55 on this one - £20 off it now so £242.55.

Avon bill - i have just paid £50 off this account leaving a balance of £900

Total payments made so far this year then is £454.14 :)

Trying to catch Up

After seeing just how out of control my debts have got again I have been trying to get myself back into the debt slaying frame of mind. To help me with this i have joined another challenge on moneysavingexpert - its basically a pay off challenge and i have given myself a target of £5000 overall - hopefully i will manage to pay off more than this over the course of the year but i thought it would be a good target to aim for to start with anyway :)

So far this year i have paid off £170 - £100 off mortgage, £10 off rates and £60 to cccs so thats a good start i think :) but i want to try and make a payment off something today as well.

The one bill that has been confusing me the most is my mortgage payment - i just find it difficult to remember and monitor my payments and what is due etc.

I got a letter dated 16th December saying i was £376.14 in arrears with my payments.  Payment becomes due on 2nd of the month so that takes it to £714.64.  I made a payment of £100 on 9th Jan = £614.64 & HB payment was due yesterday which should be £186.04 = £428.60 so my arrears at the minute are £428.60 as far as i can figure out.

I want to try and make a regular payment again every Monday off my Mortgage, my TV license, my Rates and maybe one more if i can manage it.

TV Licence - According to my schedule i owe £33 to catch up with this payment.  I have just paid £30 for this bill and i can pay the other £3 on Monday and i will be back up to date.

Rates - The last details i have on the rates payment i owe is £272.55 and i paid £10 off this on 9th so thats £262.55 now on this one if my other figure is right.

I have also just made the payment for my ground rent which is £17.50.

Final payment for today then - i have just paid £63.64 off the Avon account leaving a balance of £950

So thats a good bit of catching up done for today and total payments made so far this year is £281.14

The Debts Keep Coming In!

I really have to do some calculations to see where i am with my debts again cos at the minute it just feels like there are more being added to the list rather than getting them under control :(

Today i got a not so nice letter from the Tax office saying i owe them £369.40!! I don't know how thats possible so i will be ringing them tomorrow to find out - lets hope its a mistake!

What else do i have to add? To many unfortunately:

Am behind with my mortgage payments again - i need to pay £376.14 to get back up to date.

Avon - I owe them £1013.64 - have to contact them tomorrow as well to see if i can arrange a payment option with them and hopefully avoid more charges being added to that.

Ground Rent - I owe £17.50 to them - should be able to clear that one easy enough!

Gumtree - I owe them £60 for advertising i did ages ago :(

V - £1000 for money we raised and got taken out of my account to pay off an overdraft - I had been avoiding thinking about that one but it needs sorting out as well.

I think thats all the 'new' ones.  I might as well add a total for all the others here too as i'm trying to start working on them all again.  Am scared to look at them but i know i have to!

Here goes:

MBNA 1 - £3665.36
MBNA 2 - £3220.64
MBNA 3 - £1533.23
Barclays -  £2387.48
Egg 1 - £1864.12
Egg 2 - £1534.03
Barclays Loan - £1706.96
First Trust OD £1648.39
Barclaycard - £1569.00

These all get paid via CCCS - Balance is £19128.86 + £2836.68 for above debts = £21965.54 :(

Thats pants! But at least i have a starting figure now and i will be able to see it coming down again!
